“We have been lucky to do a lot of conferences now but Liam and I can say with complete certainty that this one felt like home” – Dom & Liam, York Place Studios. Doc Day 2022

Dom & Liam’s talk at Doc Day 2022 still today deeply influences how we ourselves approach and shoot weddings and since delivering that talk, they’ve gone on to, quite literally, ‘write the book’ on documentary wedding photography.

Is this something?” was released earlier this year and instantly became the go-to how-to book for documentary wedding photographers. It examines every aspect of documenting weddings. Dom & Liam have taken their innate ability to articulate their mindset and techniques and put them into a beautifully structured (and massive!) book. If you don’t already have one get yourself a copy quick!

Their Doc Day talk this year is going to be something different though and it’s never been seen before. They’ve put together an idea that is going to give Doc Day attendees an instant injection of technical brilliance and inspirational know-how.

How do you get the best out of the weddings you shoot week in, week out and create bold, impactful, original imagery no matter the setting, no matter the style of wedding, no matter what activities the bride and groom have planned for the day?

The answer from York Place Studios is simple:

It’s not the wedding that needs to give you more, it’s up to you to leave preconceptions at the door and open your eyes to what’s already there.

Create. Don’t Recreate. Celebrate the moments that really matter.

LIAM SHAW

Liam’s curious nature, love of street photography and thoughtful approach to photography is self-evident in the detailed, often complex and self-revealing nature of his imagery. A subtle humour shines through his work and his observational style, careful attention to detail and extraordinary way of making visual connections between seemingly disparate stories has become an oft-remarked upon hallmark of the York Place style.

For a man who believes wholeheartedly in validation through art not through awards he’s won more than a few including individual accolades from Rangefinder, Fearless and the WPJA. Liam was This is Reportage's first ever Photographer of the Year 2018, still managing to win 5 Reportage Awards and 4 Story Awards in one year, despite the fact that he sat out a round to do his part for the community as a judge!

We've lost count of Liam and Dom's staggering TiR awards count at this stage but they don't worry much about awards, it’s through their life-long creative collaboration that they find the greatest pleasure in their art

DOMINIQUE SHAW

Dominique’s photography has really always been about connection. Take a look through her portfolio and it’s evident that the images she finds worthwhile are those that are first felt rather than seen and, whether by direct eye contact, the slightest of touches or even that inexplicable feeling of emotional attachment to an inanimate, but sentimentally significant object, that connection is always at the forefront of her work.

Dominique’s multi-award winning images have received international acclaim and given her the opportunity, alongside Liam, to indulge her other passion - Education.  Dom relishes the opportunity to knowledge share and speaks at conferences and events around the world to share her unique vision and approach.
